What we do

We put together reading lists and guides for the holiday season and the long winter that follows: picture books for bedtime, classic Christmas stories, winter books by age group, teen and adult picks, and ideas for family reading traditions.

How we choose books

• Real books only. Every title is a published book, listed with its author and original publication year.
• Read-aloud quality. We favour books with strong language and pictures that hold up to rereading.
• Widely available. We prefer books commonly found in public libraries, and note public-domain classics you can read free.
• No ratings or paid placement. We do not sell books, accept payment for listings or use affiliate links.

A note on facts

We check authors, titles and dates against publisher information and library catalogues. Award details and editions can be confusing, so if you spot a mistake, please let us know. Pages were last reviewed on 2 November 2026.
